Bangalore-based startup wants to kill power banks with ChargerPot!

A Bangalore-based startup has had enough with power banks and wants to kill them for good. WaferLabs has come up with ChargerPot – a phone-to-phone charger that also doubles up as a data transfer too !!

Instead of carrying bulky power banks as backup power for your smartphone or tablet, you will soon only have to carry this cable. In the scenario wherein you are running low on charge, connecting to your friend’s phone or tablet via ChargerPot will charge your smartphone from their phone’s battery.
The startup claims that you can also use ChargerPot to transfer data between phones, at 20 times the speed of Bluetooth. For this device to work, all your need is a phone with microUSB port and OTG support.
ChargerPot sure sounds like an innovative product, seeing as how it is doing the job of a power bank without the bulk. But this two-way charging is already available in a couple of smartphones including the Lenovo P780, and the Honor 6 Plus. Additionally, power banks are safe (for now), as charging your phone using your friend’s device only seems like an emergency measure, and not something you can depend on when planning a long trip.
